Title VI Nondiscrimination Program
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Accordingly, all U.S. governments receiving federal aid, including the Town of Apex, are subject to its requirements.
Title VI prohibits a range of behaviors, including denying services to an individual, or providing an individual services that are different in quality or quantity from those provided to others, on the basis of race, color, or national origin. Title VI requirements apply to all Town employees, including any contractors and subcontractors the Town employs.
While Title VI specifically prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin, The Town of Apex recognizes there are many other relevant classifications to protect. Based on other important civil rights statutes, the Town’s official Title VI policy also includes protections against discrimination based on limited English language proficiency, income level, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, National Guard or veteran status, and disability.
If you believe you have been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, limited English language proficiency, income level, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, National Guard or veteran status, or disability, you may file a Title VI complaint with the Town of Apex. The complaint should be submitted as soon as possible, but must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.
