Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB)

Purpose and Duties

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) serves in an advisory capacity to department staff and the governing body, providing recommendations on parks and recreation matters in the Apex community. The board also reviews and makes recommendations on public recreation requirements for proposed residential developments and provides input on long range plans related to parks and recreation.  A full list of the powers and duties assigned by the Mayor and Town Council to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) can be found online in the Town's Code of Ordinances

IMPORTANT:  The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was established in 1987 and has been modified over the years, with the most recent change occurring on June 24, 2025.  Prior to this date, the Board was referred to as the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Advisory Commission and referred to it's members as "commissioners".

Meeting Details

Regular meetings of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) are held on the last Wednesday of each month, beginning at 6:00 p.m..  All meetings are held on the 2nd Floor Council Chamber at the Apex Town Hall located at 73 Hunter Street, Apex, North Carolina.  All meetings are now in-person with a public livestream, which is accessible on the Town of Apex YouTube page.

Meeting Minutes

The Office of the Town Clerk serves as the official record keeper for actions of the Apex Town Council and continuously seeks ways to improve efficiency - transparency, resident engagement, and exceptional customer service is our top priority!

The office is currently reviewing and piloting software programs which will house all meeting related materials such as agendas, minutes, ordinances, resolutions, statements, etc. This system will offer residents, staff, and other guests the ability to perform an advanced search of town records more efficiently. In the meantime, members of the public may watch any livestreamed meeting on the Town's YouTube Channel or request meeting minutes from the Town Clerk's Office. Minutes are available for public inspection in-person during normal business hours and/or can be provided electronically via email. Members

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) shall consist of nine (9) voting members members and one (1) non-voting youth representative as defined by the Resident Advisory Board Administrative Policy.  All members shall be recommended by the Mayor and appointed by the Town Council.  Members shall be appointed for two-year (2) terms, except the nonvoting youth representative which shall have a term of one-year.

*Pursuant to the Town's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), the Chair and Vice-Chair positions are annual appointments and do not coincide with the member's term.
