Vision 

The Apex Fire Department strives to be widely known as an internationally accredited fire service agency that continues to enhance the quality of life in our community through excellent service. 

As we continue to change, we will honor those we serve and each other while celebrating our legacy and shifting our focus and culture toward excellence in all we do. Our investment in our greatest asset, our members, will be realized by bolstering our training and succession planning processes to ensure we are ready now and in the future. Personnel & Stations

Within the department of 114 fire personnel across 5 fire stations (with a sixth station opening soon), fire personnel are assigned to 1 of 3 shifts that work 24-hour rotations. Each shift is comprised of personnel that provide 24/7/365 emergency response. With the addition of station 6. a second Battalion Chief has been added to each shift. 

The Fire Department’s Administrative staff works a 40-hour week and is comprised of the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief of Operations, Assistant Chief of Support Services, Assistant Chief of Professional Standards, Administrative Logistics Coordinator, Program Support Specialist, and two Training Coordinators. Additionally, the department’s Risk Reduction Division is comprised of the Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, and Community Risk Reduction Coordinator.

Note: Currently, the department is not taking on additional volunteer firefighters.

Emergency Response

As an all-hazards organization, our department is responsible for mitigation of emergency incidents that extend well beyond the customary fire suppression duties. All members of the department are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians at the Basic Level (EMT-B) and Hazardous Materials Level 1 responders. In addition to these minimum requirements, a majority of our department are also certified as Technical Rescuers with specialties in vehicle extrication, confined space rescue, trench rescue, high angle rescue and water rescue. 

Community Programs


Fire Prevention / Education

The Apex Fire Department offers an extensive fire prevention/education program. On average, fire personnel make contact with over 4,000 people annually. Station tours are available upon request.

Car Seat Installation / Inspection

Through a partnership with North Carolina SafeKids, fire personnel provides car seat inspections every Saturday. Request an appointment online or call (919) 362-4001. Appointments are available on Saturdays from 12 am - 12 pm, and 2 pm - 7 pm.

Community Emergency Response Team

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program allows community members to learn about disaster preparedness, attend training, and be prepared to assist their neighbors in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
