The 2023 Town of Apex Master Plan for Parks, Recreation, Cultural Resources, Greenways, & Open Space was the product of a 17-month planning process that updated the 2013 plan and guided the vision for the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources department for the next 10-year planning horizon.

Updates to the master plan began in 2021 and acknowledged and contextualize shifts in demographics, growth patterns, and recreation trends for the Town of Apex. It proposes a visionary path to enhance current parks and recreation services, invest in new initiatives, and identify projects to transform the scene of recreation for Apex residents and visitors by 2031.

Goals for the 2023 updated Master Plan include:

• Replacing the 2013 Parks, Recreation, Greenways, and Open Space Master Plan 
• Identifying community values
• Defining the parks system’s role in the future of the Town of Apex
• Developing a resource for elected officials, other town departments, and the public to guide future actions
• Providing a framework for the Parks, Recreation, Cultural Resources Department 
• Guiding improvements to current parks system 
• Accommodating additional demand by new residents 
• Developing the action and implementation plan 
• Qualifying for state and national funding sources
